BALTIMORE — Governor Wes Moore will appear on "Surrounded," a debate show from the online media company Jubilee, in an episode where he takes questions from 20 non-voters. The episode premieres tonight, Sunday, July 5th. Andy Ellis, who is seeking the Green Party nomination for Governor, said the campaign welcomes the governor's willingness to debate and would like to see it happen closer to home.
"I am pleased to see the governor answering questions from non-voters," said Ellis. "Hopefully he will do this in Maryland when the cameras are not rolling."
Moore won the Democratic primary and will be running for a second term in the November general election. Dan Cox, the 2022 Republican nominee for Governor, won the Republican primary, setting up a repeat of the 2022 election among the two major parties.
Maryland Public Television, the state-funded broadcaster that hosts gubernatorial debates, has historically limited participation to candidates polling at 10 percent or higher. No third-party candidate has cleared that bar, which means Maryland voters watching MPT in a general election see only the two candidates they already know.
"In addition to talking to non-voters on a podcast, we hope the governor will push Maryland Public Television to invite all candidates on this year's general election ballot for governor to a televised debate," said Ellis.
The campaign's democracy platform calls for including all ballot-qualified candidates in MPT's televised debates, alongside ranked choice voting and public campaign financing. Its civic engagement platform proposes expanding state investment in MPT and bringing debate education to every Maryland public school. Both rest on the same premise the governor is testing on Sunday: people engage when they see their views in the conversation. Marylanders who want every candidate on this year's general election ballot invited to a televised debate can sign the campaign's petition to MPT at gogreen2026.com/debate.
