It's Official: Ellis/Andrews Ticket Wins the Green Party Nomination for Governor and Lt. Governor

BALTIMORE — It's official: Andy Ellis and Owen Silverman Andrews are the Green Party's nominees for Governor and Lt. Governor of Maryland. The party's nominating primary, conducted July 8 through July 22, concluded today with the Ellis/Andrews ticket winning the nomination and advancing to the November 3 general election.

"So many people in Maryland are fed up with both parties because they know both parties care more about their donors, national narratives, and party leaders," said Ellis. "We look forward to making the case for a politics that puts voters at the center of our work."

Maryland law reserves the state's taxpayer-funded primary elections for the two "principal" parties, so the Green Party ran its own nominating primary, with Green-affiliated voters casting ballots online over two weeks.

The Ellis/Andrews ticket ran unopposed on the primary ballot, but the nomination was not automatic. Under party rules, the ticket had to defeat "none of the above" to claim the nomination. It did.

With the nomination secured, the campaign turns to the general election. The goal: 100,000 votes, which would be the strongest third-party performance for Governor in Maryland since the Civil War. The ticket will face Democratic nominee Wes Moore Republican nominee Dan Cox, and Working Class Party Nominee Cathy White, a rematch of 2022 that the campaign argues leaves many Maryland voters looking for another option.
