Green Party gubernatorial campaign reports $37 average donation, pointing to viability of people-powered politics

BALTIMORE — The Ellis/Andrews campaign for Governor and Lieutenant Governor of Maryland announced today that more than 200 individual donors contributed to the campaign during the reporting period that includes all of 2025 and the first two weeks of 2026, with an average donation of just $37.48. The milestone demonstrates growing grassroots support for the Green Party ticket as the campaign builds toward the 2026 election.

"Two hundred people have stepped up to say they believe a different kind of politics is possible in Maryland," said Andy Ellis, the campaign's candidate for Governor. "When your average contribution is under forty dollars, you're not beholden to special interests. You're accountable to regular people. That's exactly the kind of campaign we set out to build."

In this report 204 Marylanders have contributed a combined $17,876.97 across 477 individual donations. When Owen Silverman Andrews joined the ticket, the campaign opened a new publicly financed account through Maryland's Fair Election Fund, becoming the first small-party campaign in state history to participate in the program.

Under Maryland's public financing system, candidates must collect contributions from 1,500 in-state donors totaling at least $120,000 to qualify for matching funds. The Ellis/Andrews for Maryland account has raised $7,082.76 from 126 unique donors, with 107 verified toward the public financing threshold—7.1 percent of the way to qualification. Individual contributions are capped at $250.

"This campaign belongs to the people building it, one small donation at a time," said Owen Silverman Andrews, candidate for Lieutenant Governor. "We're proving that you don't need wealthy backers to run a serious campaign for statewide office. You need neighbors who believe change is possible."

The campaign aims to earn at least 100,000 votes in November 2026, which would represent the strongest third-party performance in a Maryland gubernatorial election since the Civil War. The Green Party primary is scheduled for July 2026.
