While “an all of the above approach” sounds good, and scores political points, it is bad policy. It is a core part of the Democratic Party response to the 2020 global uprisings around policing. It seeks to find a middle ground between demands to “defund the police” and to “hold criminals accountable”. Unfortunately, this just replicates failed policy of the past.
