STATEMENT FROM MARYLAND GUBERNATORIAL CANDIDATE ANDY ELLIS RESPONDING TO GOVERNOR MOORE’S “EXECUTIVE ORDER”

On September 23rd, 2026, Andy Ellis, the Maryland Green Party Gubernatorial candidate issued the following statement:

“Thousands of Marylanders across all twenty-four counties have been fighting for more than a year to resist big tech and big surveillance data centers. This morning, with the opportunity to acknowledge and work with the people of Maryland, Governor Moore made it very clear whose side he’s on: Wes Moore stands with the data centers.

“Governor Moore knows this is a win for the data centers. Big tech and the data center industry will have access to the members of the task force and the rest of us will just get a dashboard. All the while, members of our communities will have to keep showing up at their local government meetings to fight the lobbyists, lawyers, and legislators working for the data center industry.

“We’re demanding a ban. A moratorium is a half-measure, but a task force is nothing. It’s lip- service, it’s cowardly, and it does nothing to stop extractive corporations. On day one of the Ellis/Silverman Andrews administration, we’ll put a stop to all new data center construction and permitting, then we will undo the damage both parties have done for the last six years.”
