On October 6, 2026, Andry Ellis, the Maryland Green Party candidate for governor, issued the following statement:
“Maryland voters are unenthusiastic about Governor Moore, and they do not see MAGA Republican Dan Cox as a reasonable or rational alternative. Voters want to feel good about their options going into the voting booth. More importantly, they want to feel good about their choice after pulling the lever.
“At every campaign stop, we hear from Moore voters who are disappointed or frustrated by the governor’s performance; the UMBC poll confirms as much. Dan Cox is not a viable candidate: he’s far too extreme, and he is polling at the lowest point he has been since his first run for Governor in 2022. There is a much more rational ‘protest vote’ on the ballot. When you vote for Andy Ellis, you’re voting against data centers, against 2-party corruption, and for a vibrant democracy that’s not beholden to wealthy donors or corporate interests. We just want voters to be informed about all of their choices.
“The gap between Moore and Cox is statistically-insurmountable. I understand why UMBC releases their poll on the same day as the MPT Gubernatorial Debate, and I’ve made a lot of hay about not being invited to participate, but right now our campaign has a better shot at second place than Dan Cox has at overtaking Moore to win in November. This should be a harrowing moment of clarity for MPT’s editorial team, for the Maryland GOP, and for Governor Moore.
"When an informed electorate learns exactly who is on their ballot, it’s a different race. One in four Marylanders haven't settled on Moore or Cox. Don’t our neighbors deserve to hear from every candidate before they decide? We’re fortunate to have a robust public broadcaster in MPT, and it is a failure of their educational mission as a state agency to only show the two major party candidates. The UMBC poll shows that many voters are disappointed with both the Republicans and the Democrats, and I think they will continue to be disappointed after tonight’s debate.”
